SUMMER WEEKEND SOCIAL

PLEASE NOTE: As we know, learning is holistic and requires exploration through many different mediums and experiences. All themes will be explored through discussion, gross and fine motor activities, self-help activities, sensory activities, play and outings. As all children learn differently and are at different levels of learning, we ensure that experiences will be developmentally appropriate and accessible to all levels of learners.

Weekend Social Overview

Here's a weekly overview of our Social Skills Groups! Our outings will be in RED, and Reminders will be in GREEN.

JULY 10th:

SUMMER FUN DAY AND WATER PLAY

*This week will introduce the children to each other, the facilitators as well as to the learning environment and schedule of the day.  As new environments and routines can be overwhelming, the focus will be on teambuilding experiences, coping skills and confidence building with an emphasis on shared experiences. Through music, movement, small group confidence building activities and water play, the children will be able to explore and express. *

OUTING: LOCAL PARK (WEATHER PERMITTING)!

Reminder: Make Sure to bring a bathing suit & change of clothes!

JULY 17th:

SYMPHONY OF THE FIVE SENSES - SENSORY PART I

*This week will begin a three-part exploration into how we perceive and interpret the world, through the senses. Children will explore sensory integration in new and exciting ways through the use of sensory deprivation techniques as well as integrated sensory experiences.  This week will also teach the children about how to recognize signs of over-stimulation and teach coping strategies specific to each child’s need. *

JULY 24th:

EARTH, WIND AND WATER: NATURAL SCIENCE DAY SENSORY PART II

*Building on the experiences of last week, this week will focus on scientific exploration and sensory integration.  Children will explore colour, light, cause and effect, sound, biology and chemistry in safe and engaging ways.  The activities this week may get a little messy so please come in clothes that are ‘experiment friendly’ and pack an extra set, just in case. *

JULY 31st:

*ENJOY YOUR LONG WEEKEND* SESSION CANCELLED*

AUGUST 7th:

ARTFUL ANTICS -  SENSORY PART III

*This week will further expand on the knowledge gained from the previous weeks about the five senses using art as the medium of learning.  Children will experience a variety of different mediums of expression such as paint, clay and charcoal. Children will also be able to generalize the knowledge learned about the science of colour through tie-dye.  Children will learn how to express themselves by experiencing the many artful mediums and finding one that suits them best*

Reminder: Please have children dressed to explore paint & other messy forms of art. Pack an extra set just in case.

AUGUST 14th:

BARNYARD A PALOOZA

*This week we will focus on animals, life cycles and habitats.  Through music and movement, the children will explore different methods of locomotion (ways of moving) and learn about different classifications of animals.  This theme will be used as a way to encourage use and development of language as well as develop and expand on intraverbal skills. Small group experiences will also allow children to learn in more detail how animals live, how to care for them and safety issues regarding interactions with different types of animals. *

OUTING: SPRINGRIDGE FARMS

AUGUST 21st:

BUGGIN OUT

*This week we will focus on social insects and other creepy crawlies. Through the use of drama, dance, media and music, the children will explore the secret life of bees and learn how they communicate without words. We will explore different ways of communication and how to use our bodies to communicate.  Children will be taught about body language, social cues, facial expressions and emotions through a variety of small group experiences and facilitated partner work. *

AUGUST 28th:

FAIR PLAY SPORTS DAY

*This week will focus on different organized sports and fair play.  Children will learn the rules and guidelines for different sports as well as engage in skill building activities and exercises.  Children will also experience winning and losing and will work on building their ability to manage with both by learning different coping strategies and integrating what was learned about emotions and communication during ‘BUGGIN OUT’.  Weather permitting, we will spend some time outdoors exploring and expanding their understanding of the different sports presented. *
