About Teach To Learn Inc.
Teach To Learn Inc. was launched in August 2008, in response to the growing need for exceptional services for children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum and their families. Founder and Owner Rachel Smith, has dedicated her life and career to bettering the lives of children. Upon graduating from McMaster University in 1997, Rachel spent the past 16 years, designing and developing programs to enhance the learning environment for children with special needs. Like the children that she works with, Rachel believes that "we never stop learning" and is constantly furthering her own education and research. Rachel continues to study both in Canada and the US, in hopes of completing her PhD.
Message from Rachel:
"As the daughter of an elementary school teacher, I have always been invested in the art of education. From a young age, I saw the advantage of learning and always strived to do my best. I was fortunate growing up in a home, with a loving mother, father and brother, that I was afforded many opportunities over the years to further my education and to receive what I considered "The Best". Since completing my first undergrad at McMaster University I have had the honour of working with some of the top Psychologists in the field. I have also had experience working with many different professionals in many different settings. This is why in 2008 I elected to leave a solo practice and develop Teach To Learn Inc. I felt that despite there being many service providers out there, that each of them was missing aspects that I saw as an Integral part to a child's program. Since opening Teach To Learn Inc. in 2008 we have grown to become one of the lead agencies in the area. I am proud to work with such a dedicated and experienced team, and am happy with every new day that comes. I get to see first hand the progress that our children make and that is the biggest reinforcement that someone could ask for.
As the the daughter of a father with Huntington's Disease, I see first hand how having a family member with a neurological disability can effect the family on a daily basis. It is my father that most gives me the strength to meet the challenges that I face everyday in my job. It is through him that I am inspired to want to do what I can to help these children to increase the quality of the their lives. Whether it be in the area of communication, motor skills, self help skills, or social skills development, breaking the steps down and teaching them in a way that they can be successful is what we do in our programs. To us each new step of achievement is seen as the completion of a milestone and a time for celebration.
It is always my personal privilege to be able to work with each child and their family. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with yours."
Rachel
